Crystal Pite began her career as a dancer with Ballet British Columbia before joining William Forsythe's Ballett Frankfurt from 1996 to around 2001, an experience that shaped her structural approach to group choreography. She founded her own company, Kidd Pivot, in Vancouver in 2002, and has since become one of the most sought-after choreographers in ballet and contemporary dance, creating works for Nederlands Dans Theater (where she has served as associate choreographer), the Paris Opera Ballet, and the Royal Ballet.
Pite's choreography favors large groups of dancers moving as a single organism — flocking, dispersing, and reassembling with an almost cinematic sense of staging. She frequently collaborates with writers, actors, and designers to build works that sit somewhere between dance and theatre, using text, sound design, and stagecraft alongside movement rather than treating them as separate elements.

Affiliations & Recognition
Alongside her associate choreographer role at Nederlands Dans Theater, Pite has held an Associate Artist affiliation with Sadler's Wells in London, one of the world's leading contemporary dance venues — a relationship that has supported the London staging and touring of several Kidd Pivot works. She has also been recognized with Canada's Governor General's Performing Arts Award, honoring a body of work that has made her one of the most commissioned choreographers, ballet or contemporary, working today.
Legacy
